Description

Amul (GCMMF) was founded in 1946 in Anand, Gujarat by Tribhuvandas Patel with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's support, formed to counter middleman monopolies such as Polson Dairy; it now represents roughly 3.6 million farmer-shareholders. The Anand plant offers a guided tour of its butter and milk-powder operations. Its headquarters houses the Dr. Verghese Kurien Museum, opened in 2000 on his 80th birthday, chronicling India's White Revolution.
