Description
BASF's Zhanjiang Verbund site is BASF's seventh integrated complex worldwide and third-largest after Ludwigshafen and Antwerp; announced 2018, foundation laid 2019. Its steam cracker started up in January 2026 — the world's first cracker whose main compressors run entirely on renewable electricity. Ethylene capacity is 1 million tonnes/year. Total investment is about EUR 8.7 billion, under budget; the site employs over 2,000 people.
