Dangdang was founded in 1999 by Li Guoqing and Peggy Yu, headquartered in Beijing. A pioneer of online bookselling in China, often called an early 'Chinese Amazon,' it later expanded into general e-commerce. It listed on the NYSE in 2010 and was taken private by its founders in 2016. The company retains a strong position in online book sales, competing with JD.com and Alibaba.
