Description
Gome (国美) is a Chinese consumer-electronics retail chain that was historically one of the country's largest. In recent years it has been in severe financial distress: suppliers filed bankruptcy petitions against it in 2022 (a Chinese court dismissed related petitions against subsidiary GOME Appliances in January 2025), and it posted a net loss of roughly RMB 10 billion for 2023. Gome warned its 2024 loss could widen by up to 20% year-on-year with revenue down 20-30%; as of end-2024 overdue interest-bearing borrowings totaled RMB 18.7 billion and the group faced 772 pending lawsuits worth RMB 5.5 billion. Shares remain listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (0493.HK), but the company is effectively in an ongoing debt crisis and restructuring struggle.
