Gotion High-Tech was founded in 2006, headquartered in Hefei, Anhui, producing LFP and NMC batteries for EVs and energy storage. In 2020 Volkswagen invested about €1.1 billion for a 24% stake, becoming Gotion's largest partner, and the two are jointly developing cell manufacturing in Germany. In 2024 Gotion reported revenue of about RMB 35.4 billion (US$4.9 billion) and ranked fifth among global EV battery makers with roughly 5% share.
