Description
A Zhejiang provincial state-owned metallurgical group tracing back to 1957, when a steel plant was established at the foot of Banshan Mountain in Hangzhou (renamed Hangzhou Iron and Steel in 1966); the modern group was formed in 1994. In 2015 it shut down roughly 4 million tonnes of steelmaking capacity at the Banshan site, reassigning 12,000 workers, and pivoted toward digital economy, energy conservation, and environmental businesses. Renamed Hangzhou Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd. in 2017.
