KuangChi Science was founded in Shenzhen in 2010 by five PhD scholars led by Liu Ruopeng, who earned his doctorate at Duke University researching metamaterial "invisibility cloak" technology. The group grew from five employees to over 2,600 staff across 18 countries by 2017 and says it holds a majority of global metamaterial patents. Its portfolio spans aerospace (near-space vehicles, balloon platforms), telecoms, smart cities, and health tech.
