Description

Lakmé, launched in 1952, was India's first indigenous cosmetics brand, originally created by Tata Oil Mills; a 50:50 joint venture with Hindustan Unilever formed in 1996, and HUL took full ownership in 1998. Lakmé is now wholly owned by HUL, which runs over 730 scientists (more than 100 PhD holders) across three R&D centres in India, including key labs in Bengaluru and Mumbai.
