Description
Mandom's history began in 1927, when Shinpachiro Nishimura founded the Kintsuru perfume company in Osaka. In 1970 the success of its men's grooming line, promoted in ads featuring Charles Bronson, led the firm to rename itself Mandom Corporation in 1971. In 1978 the GATSBY brand was born (its name taken from Fitzgerald's novel), and in 1985 Gatsby Styling Foam launched — the first product of its kind for men's hair styling, sparking a "foam boom" in Japan. The company went public in 1988.
