MUJI (无印良品) began in 1980 as a private-label brand of Japanese retailer Seiyu, and was spun off into its own company, Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd., in 1989, headquartered in Tokyo. It is a lifestyle retailer known for minimalist, largely unbranded apparel, household goods, stationery and food. The group's (including the IDEE brand) trailing annual revenue is on the order of $5.3 billion, and the company has set a medium-term target of ¥880 billion in revenue by fiscal year 2027. Shares are listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (7453).
