Mustika Ratu was founded in 1975 by Mooryati Soedibyo, a descendant of the Surakarta royal family, who formulated jamu (herbal medicine) and cosmetics based on Keraton palace traditions, initially from her garage. Formally established in 1978, the company opened its East Jakarta factory in 1981 and listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 1995. It continues exporting jamu-based products.
