Description

Founded in 2003 as a subsidiary of state-owned Dubai World, Nakheel built the Palm Jumeirah and Palm Jebel Ali artificial islands and the archipelago The World, adding over 300 km of coastline to Dubai. After Dubai World's 2009-10 debt restructuring, ownership passed to the Government of Dubai in 2011. On 16 March 2024 Nakheel, together with Meydan, was merged into Dubai Holding and ceased to exist as a separate legal entity.
