Nissin Foods was founded in 1948 by Momofuku Ando, who in 1958 invented Chicken Ramen — the world's first instant noodle — developing the flash-frying method in a backyard shed. In 1971 he created Cup Noodles, introduced in the US in 1972 as Cup O'Noodles. The CupNoodles Museum in Ikeda, Osaka, is devoted to the history of instant noodle invention, letting visitors design their own custom cup.
