Description
PayPay Corporation, established June 2018 as a joint venture between SoftBank and Yahoo Japan (via Z Holdings) with technical support from India's Paytm, launched Japan's now-dominant QR/barcode payment app that autumn. By December 2025 it counted roughly 72 million registered users and about 40 million monthly active users, handling two-thirds of Japan's QR payment volume. The 'super app' has expanded into banking, securities and insurance.
