Description
Founded in April 1949 as the first licensed enterprise of the new People's Republic, Beijing's Red Star (Hongxing) distillery was formed by merging twelve local distilleries into the North China Liquor Company. It produces Red Star Erguotou, based on a distilling technique traced to the Qing-dynasty Yuan Sheng Hao grain depot; the craft was inscribed on China's National Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2008.
