Description

Royole Corporation, founded in Shenzhen in 2012 by Stanford-trained engineer Liu Zihong, pioneered flexible AMOLED displays and released the FlexPai, the world's first commercial foldable smartphone, in 2018. Once valued near $6 billion, it collapsed under wage arrears and debt from 2021; a Shenzhen court ordered Royole and its subsidiaries into bankruptcy liquidation in November 2024, with the founder now under consumption restrictions.
