Description
Seven-Eleven Japan was founded in 1973 as York Seven by supermarket chain Ito-Yokado together with the US-based Southland Corporation (7-Eleven, Inc.); its first store opened in May 1974 in Toyosu, Tokyo — Japan's first full-fledged franchise convenience store. Headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, it remains Japan's largest convenience chain by sales and store count. The company has trialed shelf-stocking and floor-cleaning robots, and is developing the humanoid robot "Astra" with Telexistence, built on a vision-language-action foundation model, with in-store deployment targeted around 2029.
