Description
Sinopec Maoming was founded May 1955 as one of the 156 key projects of China's First Five-Year Plan, initially processing oil shale. In 1996 it commissioned a 300,000-tonne/year ethylene unit, shifting into petrochemicals. It now processes up to 20 million tonnes of crude yearly — China's first ten-million-tonne refinery — with ethylene capacity hitting a record 1.08 million tonnes in 2011. A key node of Guangdong's petrochemical cluster.
