Description
Suning (苏宁) was once one of China's largest consumer-electronics and appliance retail chains, but has faced a severe financial crisis in recent years stemming from debt-fueled diversification into non-core assets. In 2025 the parent group entered court-ordered restructuring covering more than RMB 200 billion (about $28.1 billion) in debt; on 29 December 2025 the Nanjing Intermediate People's Court approved a reorganization plan for 38 Suning-related entities, under which ordinary creditors may recover as little as about 3.5% and founder Zhang Jindong lost rights to financial returns from those entities. The publicly listed retail arm, Suning.com, was separated earlier via a state-backed bailout and in 2024 continued limited store openings and renovations under new leadership.
