Description
Fukuoka-headquartered Trial Holdings operates more than 300 supermarkets across Japan selling food, clothing and household goods at low prices. In 2018 the company spun off its tech unit, Retail AI, which develops smart shopping carts with built-in tablets, card scanners and barcode readers that surface product and coupon suggestions based on purchase history. At its flagship Super Center Trial smart store on Island City, about 700 AI-powered cameras analyze shoppers' age and gender to adjust in-store digital advertising displays in real time.
