Description

Founded in 2019 by ex-DeepMind researcher Bui Hai Hung with backing from conglomerate Vingroup, VinAI focused on automotive AI (computer vision for self-driving) and generative models, including the open Vietnamese-language PhoGPT (2023). Its generative-AI unit was spun off as MovianAI in 2024; in March 2025 Vingroup sold a 65% stake in MovianAI to Qualcomm for $66.9 million, with Bui Hai Hung joining Qualcomm.
