ZMP Inc., founded in Tokyo in January 2001 by Hisashi Taniguchi, grew out of the Kitano Symbiotic Systems Project backed by Japan's education ministry (MEXT), and later diversified into autonomous-driving research and delivery robots. Its sidewalk delivery robot DeliRo, designed with expressive 'eyes,' has been piloted in public trials in Tokyo with Japan Post Holdings, addressing Japan's aging population and courier shortages in underserved areas.
