SHEIN spends $500 million on a Guangdong hub while building its third UK warehouse

希音 / SHEIN — a fast-fashion platform that grew from cross-border trade into one of the world's largest online clothing retailers — is simultaneously investing in infrastructure on both ends of its supply chain in 2026: RMB 3.5 billion (about $504 million) is going into a new logistics hub in Guangdong province, while active warehouse expansion continues on the European end of the chain.

Why a hub inside China matters

The investment in Chinese infrastructure is directly tied to external pressure: as the EU and US tighten oversight of cheap-import flows from platforms like this, SHEIN is working to boost operational efficiency at the source — cutting the time from production to shipment to offset rising customs-clearance and compliance costs on the receiving end.

Warehouse expansion closer to the customer

On the other end of the chain, the company opened a new warehouse in Cannock (Midlands, UK) — already its third SHEIN facility in that local logistics park. The site is equipped with advanced robotic order-picking and automated sorting systems, and its main purpose is to cut delivery times for European shoppers and reduce operational strain during peak demand periods. Beyond the UK, the company already operates distribution centers in the American Midwest and California, a warehouse in Toronto, and a facility in Poland.

A dual strategy in response to regulatory pressure

The "efficiency at the source plus last-mile speed" combination is a direct response to changed rules of the game: EU and US authorities are gradually closing loopholes in duty-free imports of small parcels, which for a long time underpinned such platforms' price advantage. Judging by the scale of investment, SHEIN is betting that operational efficiency will offset rising regulatory costs — a strategy other Chinese cross-border players are watching closely.
